Alpine Emergency Services Board discusses optics and management

The Alpine Emergency Services Board held its regularly scheduled meeting on January 11 at 5:30 p.m. in the meeting room at the North Brewster County Emergency Response Center. Absent from the meeting was Treasurer Stacey Wood. Members of the Alpine Volunteer Fire Department (AVFD) attending the meeting included Chief Andrew Pierce, Assistant Chief Charles Worden, Captain Zack Davis, and Lieutenant James Etchison.

On Tuesday of last week, the Lady Bucks defended their home turf against the visiting Kermit Yellow Jackets and brushed past the team 52-44. “It was a tough-fought game, but our girls were relentless and focused,” said Christopher Virdell, head basketball coach for the Lady Bucks.

Sul Ross offers new degrees

Beginning this fall, Sul Ross will be offering several new master’s degrees and graduate certificates, allowing the university to diversify its current offerings. All three of the colleges at Sul Ross will offer new courses, although accreditation is currently pending but expected from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges as well as the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.

Big things coming for desert bighorn sheep

In collaboration with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD), the Borderlands Research Institute (BRI) is embarking on a multi-faceted project focused on desert bighorn sheep. This project will examine the interactions, competition, and disease risks among desert bighorn, mule deer, and aoudad.
