The Alpine High School Fightin’ Bucks packed plenty of action into a short week, returning to the diamond after seven days off for a district showdown against Anthony High School on Friday, March 20. Despite outhitting the Wildcats by a wide margin, Alpine ultimately fell 9-6 at Kokernot Field in a game that swung on a handful of tough innings and untimely breaks.

The Brewster County Commissioners Court met on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. with all commissioners present. After approval of the meeting minutes from the March 10 and March 17 meetings, Brewster County Judge Greg Henington presented to the court the request for replacement of two five-ton AC units at the Red Patillo Center in Study Butte.

The Alpine Lady Bucks softball team put together a dominant stretch of softball last week, overpowering Presidio before sweeping a Saturday doubleheader against Westbrook with an explosive display at the plate.

In its 10th year, the Museum of the Big Bend will once again hold its annual Heritage Award Dinner in the Cultural Events Center at the museum. This year’s honorees are Tom and Val Beard, long-time area ranchers, museum supporters, and Brewster County residents.
