Recent AHS graduate and local veterinarian’s grandson qualify for THSR state finals

Recent Alpine High School Graduate Clancey Newman has qualifi ed for the Texas High School Rodeo state finals Region II to be held in Abilene this week. Newman was set to ride on Tuesday night and will also ride on Thursday. The finals can be watched on the Cowboy Channel through Saturday. Britton Belcher, the grandson of local Alpine veterinarian Dr. Ray Allen, and his wife Terry Jean Allen also qualified in the team roping event.

Dear Neil: My beautiful Yoshino cherry tree has a gummy or jellylike sap oozing from its trunk. The tree is about five years old. I’ve also noticed little sprouts emerging from its exposed roots. Is this some type of canker? What is wrong with my cherry tree? It’s a beauty each spring and I really want to protect it.
