The Alpine Emergency Services Board (AESB) met last Thursday for its regular meeting, with Board Chairman Rusty Moore presiding. Director Albert Lujan joined via phone, and Director Aaron Rodriguez was absent.

The Brewster County Commissioner’s Court held its regular meeting on October 28, with Brewster County Judge Greg Henington presiding. Commissioner Pct.

A memorial service for Marilyn Lee Coe Shackelford has been scheduled for Saturday, November 15, at 11 a.m. at the Marathon School Auditorium.

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks varsity football team closed out its regular season Friday night, November 7, with a tough home matchup against the undefeated Odessa Compass Cougars. Despite a 41-14 loss, the Bucks’ two district victories over Anthony secured them a thirdplace district finish and a trip to the postseason.

Perrie Lee Little Whalen went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on October 28 2025. She was born on October 15, 1947, in Tucumcari, New Mexico, to E.M.

Marilyn Lee Coe Shackelford, affectionately known as “Nanny” to her family and Mrs. Shack to countless students, entered into her Heavenly home on Friday, October 31, 2025. Born on May 15, 1941, in Alpine, Marilyn grew up in Marathon and was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She passed at the age of 84 in the home where she and her husband raised their family, as was her wish.

Maria Elena Valenzuela, 89, of Alpine, Texas, passed away on October 28, 2025. Maria was born on September 24, 1936, to parents Martin and Cruz Valenzuela in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico.
