Runnin’Bucks end season in Abilene

Body
After a stellar season by the Alpine Lady Bucks Track and Field team, a series of mishaps and a weather delay stranded the Lady Bucks in Abilene, with no one advancing to the state finals. Despite their season ending at the 3A Region I meet, a few of the athletes were able to accomplish personal and season records.

AMS baseball underway

The baseball season is underway for Alpine Middle School Bucks. Their season began on Monday, April 8 when the eighth graders traveled to Fort Stockton to take on the Panthers. The Bucks lost a close game, 3-5, but they put up an impressive performance for their first game of the season according to Coach Marco Gomez. “Alejandro Uranga and Ezra Lujan were our pitchers for the game against Fort Stockton. They had a phenomenal performance for it having been their first game of the season. Thanks to a 3-run RBI from Darius Portillo, it allowed us to get on the scoreboard and not leave with a shut-out,” said Gomez.

Quilts of many colors

Body
The annual quilt show was held this past Saturday at the Sunshine House, showcasing the talents of local quilters. The annual quilt show offers a raffle for a quilt (pictured in the background,) display quilts, challenge projects, and quilts for sale to benefit the Sunshine House or the Desert Sky Quilters, and everyone can vote on the challenge projects and the viewer’s choice.
Robbie Ann Burns stands beside one of several quilts she had on display at the annual quilt show this past Saturday. Burns’ quilt is entitled “My Story on a Bookshelf” where she commented, “I don’t believe any book should be banned. I think we can learn something from all of them.” The quilt listed many of the books Burns had read over the years, and although she’d had several offers to buy it, she turned them down.
