LOOKING BACK

Body
Shown here is Levingston Hall which adjoins the campus grounds in Alpine. Recently Alpine has grown exponentially, due in part to a temperate climate similar to the south of France. It is located on the main line of the Southern Pacific, and the local Normal school.

Removing male cedars won’t stop cedar allergies

Body
Dear Neil: I really enjoy Neil Sperry’s column. He addressed whether someone would want to cut down a redcedar tree because of allergies to the pollen. Remember that there are both male and female trees in the juniper genus. If the redcedar has pretty little blueberries, it’s a female tree and will not produce pollen. It could be left without fear of creating allergies.

BBLSA Pulled Pork

Body
HEAD OVER MEALS Each year at the Big Bend Livestock Show Association (BBLSA) stock show, the concession stand puts out what many locals consider gourmet burritos. Once the domain of Paul Loeffl er and Bob Dillard, the cooking duties have been taken over by local small business owner and former Alpine FFA member Stephen Wood and small business owner and former Alpine FFA member Calan Ahrens.

Pet of the Week

Body

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Rodan. “I’m a Mighty Fire Demon … I’m just kidding.” Hi. My name is Rodan, and I’m a fireball of a kitty. My personality is as bright as the sun, and I’m as active as a bird on a windy day. I do enjoy a lot of activity and I think sunbathing is an amazing pastime. If you enjoy the same things as me, please come and see me at the shelter.
