FFA students to meet on Sul Ross campus twice in September

Area Future Farmers of America (FFA) students from Alpine, Fort Stockton, Crane, Iraan, Pecos, and Wink will visit the Sul Ross State University campus in Alpine. On Monday, September 11, 116 freshman students enrolled in their first year of agriculture classes will attend the “Greenhand Day” conference and participate in activities ranging from friendly competitions within and across the FFA chapters as well as personal and organizational leadership sessions.

The Gage Hotel hosted the fifth annual Marathon Songwriters Festival August 11-12. The event is a two-day celebration of song and story in far West Texas. As part of the celebration, the Gage Hotel held a benefit raffle for the Marathon Public Library and the Marathon Volunteer Fire Department.

WEEK Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Abby. Abby is a pretty girl with a warm and friendly smile. She’s proud to be lightningquick on her paws. She’s here, she’s over there, she’s everywhere all at once. Abby loves running around the yard with her friends and will play tag for hours.

The Alpine Lady Bucks varsity cross country team left almost everyone in the dust last weekend at the Crane Invitational. Coming in second behind district competitor, Odessa’s Compass Academy, the girls showed the other 12 teams what they were made of.

Ethan Muratori and Chris Herrera had an instant bond upon meeting. They loved food, and loved their family, and these shared interests quickly solidified their friendship. To the point that every time they would meet, their greeting was always by the moniker ‘Amigo’.
