Late spring and early summer brought much needed moisture to much of the area, however the stifling heat wave spanning much of June, July, and now August quickly robbed any benefit from the early season rains. While we all hope for the start of a strong monsoon season, there are a few things to keep in mind to help keep plants healthy, while conserving our groundwater resources.

CDRI’s BBQ & Auction Fundraiser this Saturday

The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI) will hold its annual BBQ & Auction fundraiser this Saturday, starting at 4 p.m. Ticket sales have been brisk, but there are still a few remaining. Tickets are $30 per person for a brisket dinner catered by Sanchez BBQ, along with beer, wine, music, and an auction.

Terlingua CSD hits the ground running

Students at Terlingua Consolidated School District will start their new school year on August 21. The campus educates students from PreK-12, beginning with the four-year-old’s and ending with the seniors. While the younger kids are wide eyed and excited to learn, the other end of the spectrum has the seniors completing their last year as Paisanos according to Reagan Reed, superintendent for Terlingua CSD.
