Cooler, crunchier options for warmer days

As warmer temperatures begin to prevail here in the last frontier, food choices begin to change as well. Instead of the heavier and heartier fare we tend to eat during the colder months such as soups and casseroles, our food choices lean towards things like fish tacos and salads.

Desert Sky Quilters: Quilting for a cause

March is national quilt month, and the ladies of Desert Sky Quilters are hard at work turning out pieces of functional, fabric art, all for a good cause. In 2005, a local shop called A Stitch in Time was open in Alpine.

Council OKs ordinances, resolutions, more

The Alpine City Council held their regularly scheduled meeting on Mar. 7 at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers. Of importance were action items including the approval of ordinances, resolutions, and a letter of support for the AFROFABFEST festival.

Alpine ISD Superintendent takes on state legislators

Recently, Alpine ISD Superintendent Dr. Michelle Rinehart traveled to Austin to speak with legislators about the many successes as well as challenges and needs affecting the district. Rinehart’s goal is to help legislators understand what our rural public schools face in terms of funding or lack thereof.

Bucks baseball sees 2-2 split to start season

The Alpine Fightin’ Buck varsity baseball team started their 2023 season behind the curve. With a loss to Pecos in their first game last Monday of 2-10, the Bucks entered the Comanche Classic to face off against the Regan County Owls last Thursday.

Alpine rips Wink, heads to Brownfield this weekend

The Alpine Lady Bucks have had hot bats of late. Heading into Tuesday’s home match with Midland TLCA, the Lady Bucks had outscored Van Horn and Wink, 33-1, smashing 25 hits along the way, including homeruns by Kody Hawkins at Van Horn and Paula Vargas in Friday’s home-opener against Wink.
