Lady Bucks drop series to Compass Academy

Body
After two weeks off, the Lady Bucks tried to shake off the cobwebs by taking on a surging Compass Academy in Odessa. The Cougars are currently ranked in the top 20 in Texas 3A volleyball. The first three sets were very competitive. Both teams fought hard, but Compass led two sets to one. The Lady Bucks ran out of steam in the final set, losing 25-11 as the CBS cameras rolled. Self-infl icted errors, and excellent hitting and blocking by the Cougars likely cost the Lady Bucks the series.

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Body
Seek the truth As much as I appreciate the humor in Biden’s handlers shout out to Leni Riefenstahl aficionados, what I didn’t appreciate about this speech was the attempt to turn one group of people against another. That’s destructive of a good society.

City talk, it’s the talk of the town

Body
There is no better time than now to be an Alpine Resident. Our city is on the cusp of some positive changes. More residents than ever are voicing their concerns, opinions, ideas, and solutions to the challenges ahead of us. City officials and the City Council are encouraging increased input from residents, and are adding additional layers of transparency to those that have been established for some time now.

Watch for this sleek desert beauty

Body
The Phainopepla is surely among the most beautiful and graceful of all birds in the Trans Pecos. The male is sleek and shiny black with a long tail and a ragged crest that is often raised, and when he flies he shows bright white patches on his rounded wings. Although the female is gray all over, both have bright red eyes. Pretty flashy stuff.
