What is orzo? Orzo is an Italian pasta which name means “barley” because it resembles barley in its unprocessed form. It is classified in the pastas as being a pastina, and used mainly in soups. While orzo is Italian in origin, it is a staple across Europe, primarily Greece and the Middle East. It is known by different names in different regions, such as kritharaki, manestra, rosa marina, einkornpasta, or pasta gallo pion. Orzo is also known as risoni.

There is a concept in physics known as the Heisenberg, or Uncertainty, Principle. This idea was conceived by the German physicist Werner Heisenberg who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1927. In the simple terms I understand, this principle states that in quantum mechanics, it is impossible to determine two related quantities at the same time. One can measure the position of a particle but not the direction, or one can measure the energy but not the position.

What activities were you involved in during your senior year? I did band marching in UIL competition. What was your favorite moment the last four years? My favorite moment in the last four years in high school was being able to go on so many trips with the band and sports, and being able to meet so many new people.

Kylie King, Kody Gentry, Jesus Rey, and Debbie Jordan of BBT in Alpine are happy to serve up barbecue with all the fixings during the annual BBT barbecue and tailgate party held on Murphy Street on July 29. BBT hosted an appreciation party for customers, employees, Viva Big Bend musicians, and future BBT customers. On May 27, 2022, with her beloved children by her side, Gloria Luna Chavira, 76, of Marfa, Texas, closed her eyes to her earthly home, and opened them to a glorious homecoming. The community, friends, and family of Gloria are invited to share a meal, fellowship, and gather in remembrance of her life on Saturday, Aug.

Sally passed away July 30, 2022, surrounded by her family as she went to her be with her Lord and Savior. She was born in Marfa, Texas, on April 6, 1954, to Les and Helen Bell.

Colin Wade Powers, 55, passed away July 3, 2022, at his home in Alpine, Texas. He was the son of Mike and Frieda Powers of Alpine.

Herbert Lawrence Surber, 84, of Marfa, Texas, passed away at his residence on July 30, 2022. Graveside services will be held Thursday, Aug.

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled city council meeting on Aug. 2, and Mayor Catherine Eaves said most of the topics of discussion at her Meet with the Mayor events have concerned the city budget and roads.
