Museum of the Big Bend will open its spring exhibit on April 22 with “Fred Darge Paints the Big Bend and Beyond,” and many are eagerly awaiting its unveiling. Born in 1900 in Rendsburg, Germany, Darge entered the U.S.

On March 14 Brewster County deputies, U.S. Border Patrol Agents, and Department of Public Safety Air Operations responded to remote southeastern Brewster County in response to a large group of suspicious persons trespassing on private property.

Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church’s Knights of Columbus in Alpine held their annual Fry-Day Lenten fish fry on March 11 at the Parish Hall, with many volunteers contributing their time and efforts for a good cause.

Alpine Humane Society Pet of the Week is Lil Roo, a white Shepherd mix. Lil Roo is a very energetic pup who, even though she looks like an adult dog, is very much still a puppy. Her previous owner described her as loveable and sweet. Roo enjoys treats, and likes to give kisses.

It was a nice day for barbecue and cake as DB’s Rustic Iron BBQ owner Don Baucham and Michelle Chiles of the Big Bend Chamber of Commerce celebrate the grand opening of the Terlingua barbecue joint’s new location on March 2, along with Texas Independence Day.
