American Legion Auxiliary Unit 79 in Alpine recently began presenting certificates of recognition to local businesses showing their patriotism by flying the American flag and showing support for the country, U.S. military troops, and veterans.

The fields are now set for the May 7 City of Alpine, Alpine ISD, and Big Bend Regional Hospital District elections. For the city, school teacher Catherine Eaves and Alpine businessman Amit Rangra will face off in the mayoral race to take Andy Ramos’ seat when he terms out in May.

The City of Alpine held its regularly scheduled council meeting on March 1, and an announcement was made that two responses from private entities for EMS services had been received.

Spring in the Chihuahuan Desert has always lured many visitors to remote West Texas, especially during the months of March and April. Big Bend is already experiencing record visitation, and those who anticipate spending spring break in the park this year will need to plan ahead and be prepared.

The Old Overland Trail Museum reopened on March 3 at 511 Fort Street in Fort Davis. The museum will be open Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 2-4 p.m.
