Roughly midway through the season, the Alpine High School boys varsity basketball team has gone 6-3, with losses only coming against Rankin, Greenwood, and Wink.
As the season progresses, the players are getting more comfortable in their roles on the team. Coach Hugh Morrissey has created a tough team that plays defense and challenges opponents to play fast and run a lot.
Also, the three point shot has seen more and more success as the Fightin’ Bucks seem to be getting warmed up. Unfortunately, the Bucks have fallen short when it comes to free throw shooting, and that has hurt them in a couple of games.
On Jan. 2 the Bucks were in Alpine, facing their neighbors from Fort Davis, a team they are familiar with. Several Bucks got involved in this game, including Cody Barragan who hit five threes in the first two quarters.
Esteban Macias had a nice game with several buckets, as did Brady Crump and Aiden
Morrissey. Jayden Canaba also had a good shooting day, and made a couple of threes. Free throw shooting improved as the team went 12/19 at the line.
The Fightin’ Bucks came out ahead with a final score of 75-41.
