On the morning of Dec. 30, the Lady Bucks faced Wink in an away game. Wink is a talented team, so the test was tough.
In the first quarter, the girls came out playing hard. Nora Carrasco got involved immediately, with impressive early steals and scoring. Chloe Cordova and Jenica Portillo also had good showings early on in the game. After one quarter, Alpine was down by three.
As the first half continued, the Lady Bucks went to the line several times. Free throw shooting has not been great this season, and it showed again as at least half a dozen free throws were missed in the second quarter alone.
Alexis Rodriguez came out with good defense in the half, with solid rebounding and inside paint presence from Cordova and Daniella Estrada. Finishing out the first half, Alpine kept it close, with Wink leading 32-34.
In the second half, the Lady Wildcats really started showing their skills by knocking down several shots, and pulled away big in the third quarter. Turnovers started to pile up for the Lady Bucks, and they would not be able to recover despite great effort.
After three quarters, Alpine was down 16, and the fourth quarter ended with Wink winning by 23 points and a final score of 63-40.
