Martha Martinez
Martha Martinez, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on April 20, in Odessa. She was born on February 24, 1940, in the small town of Fort Davis. Martha lived her life with a warmth and kindness that touched everyone she met, and she will be deeply missed by all.
Martha was a woman of many gifts, particularly in the kitchen, where she created culinary masterpieces that could bring a smile to anyone’s face. Her love for cooking and baking was unmatched, and she took considerable joy in feeding not only her family but anyone who crossed her threshold. Known for her generous spirit, her door was always open, welcoming all with an invitation to stay for a meal, a laugh, or simply good company. Her infectious joy for life was evident in everything she did; she could throw a party that would fill the room with laughter and warmth, making memories that would last a lifetime.
Her family, which she cherished above all, includes her daughters, Betty Urbanczyk and Margaret Martinez (Tilly), and her sons, Joe Frank Rivera, Jerry Rivera, and Phillip Martinez (Cherri), brother Robert Rodriguez, grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, greatgreat- grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. They were her pride and joy, and nothing delighted Martha more than spending time with her family, imparting love, wisdom, and, of course, her favorite baked goods.
Martha’s personality shone brightly through her kindness and her unwavering support for those around her. She had a remarkable ability to lend a helping hand, whether it was to family, friends, or even a stranger. Martha demonstrated that life is to be lived to its fullest, inspiring those who knew her to treasure every moment.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Moy Martinez, her dear parents, Blas and Francisca Rodriguez, daughter Jean Cruz, son Felix Rivera, Jr., grandson Jesus Navarette, and her beloved siblings, including Susie Madrid, Katherine Dutchover, Arcelia (Elia) Marquez, Charlie Rodriguez, and Tommy Rodriguez. Their shared memories echo through the lives she touched, reminding them all of the love and laughter that filled their time together.
Martha Martinez leaves a legacy of kindness, community, and cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her spirit will forever linger, guiding us to be kind, to open our hearts, and to live our lives fully, just as she did.
