Dwight Houston Yarbrough, beloved husband, father, veteran, counselor, educator, and longtime Midland resident, passed away after a life defined by service, integrity, compassion, and unwavering faith. A proud alumnus of the University of Oklahoma, Dwight earned his Ph.D. and built a distinguished career dedicated to helping others. He also honorably served his country as a decorated and retired veteran of the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected his deep sense of duty and patriotism. Raised in Arizona, Dwight’s humble beginnings helped shape a man whose rugged exterior concealed a generous heart. He believed deeply in honesty, personal accountability, and remaining true to one’s principles. These values guided every aspect of his life, and he expected the same sincerity and integrity from those

around him. For many years, Dwight devoted his professional life to serving as a drug and alcohol counselor, offering hope, guidance, and compassion to individuals facing some of life’s greatest challenges. He believed firmly that people deserved second chances and dedicated himself to helping others find healing, purpose, and renewed direction. His work was more than a profession— it was a calling rooted in empathy, faith, and an enduring belief in the resilience of the human spirit. Whether serving his country, supporting his family, or walking alongside those in need, Dwight lived a life marked by steadfast faith in God, an abiding love for his family, and an unwavering belief in the goodness and potential of others.

Dwight is survived by the love of his life, Nilvia (Rodriguez) Yarbrough, and his brother and sister, Duane Yarbrough and Delaine Taylor. He was welcomed into eternal rest by family and loved ones who preceded him. Rosary will be on Thursday, August 6, at 7 p.m. and Mass on August 7 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Graveside and full military services will follow at Holy Angels Cemetery. A luncheon will also follow at Our Lady of Peace Parish Hall.

Honorary pallbearers include Sammy Acosta, John Beckett, John Klingemann, Jacob Pritchett, Hector Rodriguez, and Jesus Rodriguez.
