Model Ship Exhibit by Marfa native Kim Thornsburg, 5-9 p.m., Building 98 (Fort D.A. Russell) in Marfa. Lecture by the artist, 6 p.m. Display of models of Holocaust ships used by Jews to escape the Nazis during World War II. Free

Christmas Parade and Tree Lighting, 5:30 p.m., parade participants gather at Alpine City Hall; 6 p.m., parade begins on Holland and travels east to 5th Street, then north to Avenue E where it will continue west to the Brewster County Courthouse. 7 p.m., Santa arrives at courthouse, caroling and lighting of the tree. Sponsored by the Alpine Chamber of Commerce and the Pilot Club of Alpine.

Holiday plays, “A Hillbilly Christmas Carol” and “The Christmas Guest,” 6:15 box office opens, 7 p.m. curtain, The Tin Can Theatre, 105 N. 10th St. Bring a chair or rent one, concessions sold. Proceeds benefit Alpine Christian School’s scholarship fund.

Christmas at the Preserve, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., The Nature Conservancy’s Davis Mountains Preserve, 25 miles northwest of Fort Davis on Highway 118. 9 a.m., Pam Gaddis guides a hike to 48 Overlook starting from the McIvor Conservation Center; 1 p.m., Chris Pipes leads an interpretive hike; and 2 p.m., Zach Buie, director of bands for the Marfa ISD, provides holiday music. Free; donations welcome. Free Ponderosa pine seedlings by the conservancy and Texas A&M Forest Service.
