Twin Peaks 4-H to kick off inaugural year

Now that back to school is back in session for area kids, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved in hands-on projects, all while learning valuable life skills and taking active leadership roles that will follow them throughout their lives. And it’s all thanks to the Brewster County Twin Peaks 4-H Club.

My second year at the helms is extra special. First of all, We have a team that is hungrier than last year. They have seen and played in the postseason, something that left a bad taste in their mouths. Losing in the Bi-District match against Littlefield left an empty feeling in everyone’s stomach.

It’s been many years since my last letter of public appeal through the Avalanche. If wearing a mask might help one child stay healthy, isn’t that enough incentive for the school board to put it on an agenda, discuss it, and vote?

Blending creativity and passion in Marfa

Exciting things are happening at Ballroom Marfa, a non-profit contemporary arts museum that boasts not only a wide variety of arts exhibitions, but also features screenings, public artworks, and concerts that cater to artistically or musically inclined arts fans.

Bringing back the faith

It’s a time of new beginnings in Alpine with practicing the faith and growing in relationship with neighbors, and building strong relationships through discussion and reflection. That is the mission Alpine natives Dorinna Tanksley and Elva Torres are set to do at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church as the new co-directors take over the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults program.
