Legislative session wraps up The dust hasn’t quite settled on the 2025 legislative session, but here’s a sampling of bills already sent to Gov. Greg Abbott.

BB-RISE receives state designation to expand rural career pathways

The non-profit partnership between Marfa ISD, Marathon ISD, and Alpine ISD has been designated a Rural Pathway Excellence Partnership (R-PEP) by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). This designation allows the Big Bend Rural Initiative for Success in Education (BB-RISE) alliance, which focuses on small, rural districts, to collaborate across district lines to create shared college and career pathways. BB-RISE can now expand high-quality postsecondary opportunities for these rural students via coordinated efforts across the districts, higher education institutions, and the workforce.

AISD musicians perform at State Solo and Ensemble contest

Ten students from the Alpine ISD Fightin’ Buck Band recently participated in the State Solo and Ensemble contest in Austin. According to the Alpine High School band director, Chuck Wilson, there were mixed results from the competition, but all students came away with compliments on their musical performance from all the judges.
