October 19-20 Terlingua Fire Fighters and EMT’s Ball, 9 a.m. to 12 a.m., with a car show, domino tournament, and dance beginning at 5 p.m. Cost for the dance is $20, which includes two drink tickets and an all-you can eat buffet at DB’s Rustic Iron BBQ. This is TFEMS annual fundraiser and also includes a silent as well as a live auction with all proceeds going towards equipment needed to keep the members of TFEMS safe.

Dear Neil, our lawn maintenance company mowed our grass about a month ago. I noticed a spot that almost immediately appeared beneath our red oak. It was about 4x4 ft. and looked like it had tire tracks going through it. A few days later, we had our trees trimmed, and the company dragged limbs from our yard. Many more of the spots appeared almost overnight, again looking like tire tracks. We sprayed with a fungicide, and the grass began to look a bit better. One thing that showed up on web searches was Ascochyta leaf blight. We’ve never had anything like this in 11 years of living here. I’ve known how to deal with chinch bugs from reading your columns, but this one has me stumped. Any suggestions?

The Alpine Fightin’ Bucks middle school football teams took on the Odessa Compass Cougars in two competitive matchups last Thursday, with the 7th and 8th-grade squads delivering vastly different outcomes.

The Alpine Lady Bucks volleyball team continued their dominance in district play, adding two more victories to their record with wins over the Anthony Wildcats and the Kermit Yellow Jackets. With these triumphs, the Lady Bucks improved their district record to a perfect 5-0, holding firm to their first-place position in District 4-3A.
