Use cuttings, especially since they’re so widely available at this time of year. They root easily and they’ll have ample time to develop good roots in their 4-inch pots, then become established out in the beds before fall.

Alpine Sports Summer Training Schedule After 54 years of teaching and coaching, with a career marked by tremendous impact and appreciation from his students, Coach Wayne Schroeder will be retiring. To mark this departure, Schroeder was recently honored at the annual sports banquet for the AISD 2023-2024 athletes.

The Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute (CDRI) is pleased to announce the 2024 James F. Scudday Scholarship recipients. With their impressive thesis projects, this year’s scholarship winners are Nicole Dickan and Elle Sutherland.

Alpine’s Gallery Night, Inc. (AGN), the 501c3 non-profit has announced the recipients of the Peggy Martin Memorial Art Scholarship as well as the Roger Cutforth Memorial Scholarship.

The summer food program that Alpine ISD sponsors is in full swing as of this past Tuesday, May 28. This program provides lunches for children up to 18 years of age or children with special needs up to 21 years of age. Lunches are free to the children regardless if they are enrolled at AISD or not.

After 24 years with the Museum of the Big Bend, Director Mary Bones hung up her hat on April 30. Thanks to her remarkable contribution to the establishment, the Permian Basin Area Foundation is celebrating her legacy by creating the Mary Bones Endowment for the Museum of the Big Bend.

When does summer begin? Sul Ross State University students have been enjoying summer break for nearly three weeks, and local public school students have just gotten their own taste of freedom. Given that summery temperatures can occur nearly year-round in Texas, most might agree that usually, the real question is whether summer ever ends.
