U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona last week announced $51.7 million in 189 new grant awards to institutions of higher education across the U.S. as part of the Ronald E. Mc-Nair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program. The program provides grants to universities and colleges for projects designed to provide disadvantaged college students effective preparation for doctoral studies.

Sul Ross State University has partnered with West Texas Food Bank to combat food insecurity for college students. West Texas Food Bank is the largest non-profit, non-governmental hunger relief organization in the Permian Basin, and collects, purchases, and distributes food for individuals in West Texas who are experiencing hunger and food insecurity.

Celebrated in song, story, and caricature (think “Wile E. Coyote”), and with monuments dedicated to its image (who could forget Fort Stockton’s Paisano Pete), the Greater Roadrunner stands as an abiding - albeit quirky - symbol of the desert Southwest.

Dear Neil: Thanks for the information on trimming tropical milkweed plants by early September. I know that the wild native milkweed is preferable to the tropical type for monarchs, but where can I buy the plants or seeds?
