Jeff Davis County Library will hold a hummingbird quilt raffle benefiting Friends of the Jeff Davis County Library, a non-profit organization. Tickets are available and the quilt is on display at the Jeff Davis County Library, 100 Memorial Square in Fort Davis.

Dear Neil: My vitex plant had sparse leaves and a few small blooms following the February cold spell. Should I prune it back, take it out, or just wait and see what happens? Vitex plants were hurt significantly in many parts of Texas.

Alpine High School’s Madalyn Warren was one of more than 600 high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the country who represented Varsity Spirit in the Varsity Spirit Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Honolulu, Hawaii, from Dec. 4-8. Sul Ross men’s hoops led most of each half, but a late surge from Howard Payne handed the Lobos a 67-59 road loss on Thursday night in Brownwood. The Lobos got out to an early 10-6 lead that was capped by a pair of triples from Julian Paredes.

Volleyball earns sportsmanship award

Sul Ross State University volleyball and six other American Southwest Conference member institutions were recognized by the conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee as recipients of SAAC Team Sportsmanship awards for the fall 2021 sport seasons.

To say I am not a traditionalist is an understatement. I push the envelope when it comes to cooking. That is not to say I am some classically trained chef using liquid nitrogen or a sous vide cooker, it just means that I like to use ingredients outside those listed in a recipe. It means that I like to experiment with different flavors beyond those one may traditionally associate with different dishes. One such dish I most definitely experiment with is chicken pot pie.
