The Museum of the Big Bend tells the story of the majestic and vast Big Bend of Texas. Through exhibits and numerous programs and events, the museum is a must see for any traveler visiting the region. The Museum is located at the northeast corner of the Sul Ross State University campus and can be reached from Entrance Two on U.S. Highway 90 or Entrance Four from Harrison Street. Brewster County deputies last week responded to an armed burglary report south of Alpine and finally caught up with a man who had been evading law enforcement officers for about three months.
Erminia Covarrubias, 73, of Alpine, Texas, passed away at Odessa Medical Center on March 5, 2018.
One of Texas’ most wanted sex offenders was taken into custody March 8 by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Presidio port of entry with the help of Mexican law enforcement officials. He was then turned over to the U.S. Marshal Service.
The Big Bend Region of West Texas is known for its many and beautiful historic buildings. Hotel Lympia, Hotel Paisano, the Gage Hotel, and Alpine’s very own Holland Hotel are nationally recognized for their Spanish architecture, Western-chic décor, and rich histories. Despite their beautiful aesthetics, however, some of these buildings have dark, sordid pasts.
Robert “Bobby” Edwin Sanders, of Alpine, Texas, passed away on Feb. 17, 2018, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Sanders of Alpine and numerous family members and lifelong friends.
