First Baptist Church welcomes Dr. Chris Powell as their new pastor.

Chris and his family come to Alpine from Lamesa, where he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church in Lamesa for nearly five years.

A native of West Texas, Chris grew up in Iraan and Monahans. He graduated from Monahans High School, and earned a bachelor of behavioral science degree in social work and a master of divinity from Hardin-Simmons University.

He also earned his doctor of ministry from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary.

Chris is married to Krista and they have two children, Noah and Chloe. Krista is a family nurse practitioner and will be practicing with the Presidio County Health Services.

Chris has a passion to see the church participate in the mission of God. He believes that mission begins at home and then extends to the ends of the earth. He loves when people catch a vision for the mission of God and embrace the mission that is set before them.

Both Chris and Krista believe the greatest ministry of the church takes place outside the walls of the church, and they love to be involved in the life of the community. They are excited to be in Alpine and look forward to many years of service here.

Chris’ first Sunday worship service to preach at First Baptist Church in Alpine will be on March 3.

”I would love to invite the community to worship with us as we encounter our living Lord and Savior Jesus Christ this Sunday” Chris said.

Sunday morning worship service begins at 10:55 a.m. A pot luck luncheon will be served immediately following the March 3 service to welcome Chris and his family to Alpine.
