The Sul Ross State University Jazz Ensemble and Contemporary Vocal Ensemble will present a gala fundraising event on April 29 featuring original music of the Glenn Miller Orchestra.
Titled "The Power of Music in War and in Peace," the show at the Granada Theatre will feature a reservations-only catered dinner at 7 p.m., followed by the show at 8. Dinner tickets are $100, and the show costs $10. Prior to the meal, dinner guests will be treated to a social featuring the Sul Ross Mariachi Ensemble.
The show will star Matt Hardison as Glenn Miller, Laura Ashley as Marion Hutton, Kendall Craig as Karl Schwedler, Greg Schwab as Johnny Desmond, Amber Bowman as Ilse Weinberger, Raven Thrasher as herself and Ted Arbogast as the announcer.
Principal musicians will include Ron Steinmann as director, scriptwriter and drummer; Erin Lippard, director of the Contemporary Vocal Ensemble; Michael Lippard, woodwinds conductor and mariachi director; Jim Wright, solo clarinet; and Marilyn Dieckert, pianist and arranger.
"The Power of Music" is presented as a "documusicary" by music, theatre, art and communication students of the Department of Fine Arts and members of the community.
