Elidia “Lydia” Fierro Garza, 67, a life-long resident of Alpine, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved family on May 31, 2019 at Ashton Medical Lodge in Midland, Texas.

Lydia was born in Alpine on April 14, 1952. She is survived by her mother, Berta Natera Fierro; two daughters, Mona Lisa Norris and her husband, Levelle, and Marisela Garza-Kolesar and her husband, Devin; two sons, Saul A. Garza and Christopher D. Garza; five grandchildren, Elijah, Elyiah, and Evan Norris, and Rowan Garza-Churchman and Damon K. Garza-Kolesar; and one great-granddaughter, Emiliyah Norris; two sisters, Melinda Eli, and Mary Ellen Delgado and husband Larry; and two brothers, Armando Fierro and his wife Hortencia, and Gabriel Fierro. Lydia was preceded in death by her father Fermin Fierro, and two brothers, Henry Fierro, Jr., and Richard Fierro, along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

In her simplicity she strove to imitate the virtues of our Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ. Lydia was a proud member of the Guadalupanas, a group of devout Christian women strongly united in works of charity and religious activities. She was actively involved in church functions and celebrations. She was a Eucharist minister who loved administering communion to the homebound.

She loved the company of her friends and family more than anything. She was a wonderful daughter, niece, mother, sister, and friend. Her smile was made of sunshine, and her heart was solid gold. Her family history was an attribute she loved sharing. She was gifted with kindness and compassion, touching many hearts that will always be remembered.

Funeral services were held on June 4, 2019 in Alpine. Rosary, followed by mass and interment, was held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Father Edilberto “Beto” Lopez officiated her services.

The family would like to express our thanks for the wonderful help and care given by Ashton Medical Lodge and Hospice of Midland.

The Garza family entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with her services. Online condolences may be made at
