Michael “Paco” Hector Martinez

Michael “Paco” Hector Martinez, 65, of Alpine, Texas, entered eternal life on Oct. 3, 2018, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.

Paco is survived by his three loving children, Micaela Aguilar and husband Steven of Marathon, Texas, Ivana Martinez of Fort Stockton, Texas, and his son Mario Martinez of Fort Stockton; his six sisters, Lupe Rodriguez of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Rita Gordon of Alpine, Jessica Gordon of El Paso, Texas, Lorina Soza-Klingemann of San Angelo, Texas, Donna Gordon of Houston, Texas, and Ramona Moore of San Antonio, Texas; and one brother, Rudy Gordon of Alpine; along with four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, as well as many beloved friends.

Paco was born on Oct. 25, 1952, in Alpine to Maria Belia (Martinez) Gordon. Paco graduated from Alpine High School, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Sul Ross State University.

Paco loved sports, especially baseball and football. His favorite teams were the Houston Astros and the Cleveland Browns. He worked as a custodian for Alpine Medical Center. Paco spent his free time giving real world advice to his family and friends, as well as making his famous chile macho for his friends and family.

Paco enjoyed taking care of his grandchildren, being there for his friends, and teaching family and friends to play card games, as well as reading his newspaper. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren to play at local parks and feeding them ice-cold watermelon. He loved cooking for his family and grilling out with his friends. He was a proud supporter of Sul Ross athletics, as well as a proud supporter of the Alpine Fighting Bucks.

Paco was preceded in death by his mother Maria Belia (Martinez) Gordon, his step-father Lewis Gordon, and his grandmother Micaela Martinez.

The Most Holy Rosary was prayed on Oct. 7, 2018.  Mass of Christian Burial was held on Oct. 8, 2018, at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Father Hector Chicas serving as celebrant. A Navy military graveside service was held at Holy Angels Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers were Rudy Gordon, Martin Sandate, Eddie Molinar, Chavel Vega, Martin Sandate, Jr., and Juan Llanez.

The Martinez family entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with arrangements.

Bucks fall to Hawks in Quarterfinals

Leftfielder Travis Ruckman had assistant coach Hugh Morrissey fired up during game one of the Regional Quarterfinals on May 17 in Midland. His third inning two-run single gave Alpine an early lead against Wall who went on to score 35 runs in two wins over Alpine.
