Lupe H. Rodriguez went home to be with the Lord on Oct. 15, 2018, at the age of 69.

Lupe is survived by her children, Francie Harper, Donnie Rodriguez, and Charlie Rodriguez.

She was a grandmother to seven children, Jonathan Clark, Alex Rodriguez, Alina Rodriguez, Annalise Rodriguez, Cruz Rodriguez, Camryn Rodriguez, and Liv Rodriguez.

Lupe was born in Alpine, Texas, on July 24, 1949, to Salvador Hernandez, Sr., and Francisca Hernandez. She graduated from Alpine High School, and went on to attend Sul Ross State University.

She was employed by Alpine ISD for more than 25 years, working as a teacher’s aide and a librarian. More recently, she was employed by Alpine Police Department, and served as an administrative assistant to High Intensity Drug Trafficing Area since 2001.

Lupe was a devoted mother and grandmother. She frequently traveled across several states to visit family, often by way of train. She was an avid gardener, and was always excited to stop and visit any nursery she could find. She enjoyed listening to Yanni, Juan Gabriel, and the Bee Gees, along with Ray Hendrix on the local news.

Although she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, she was the most picky eater anyone knew. She could spend hours picking up pecans at Kokernot Lodge. She could always make endless conversation with just about anyone, whether it was on the phone or at the produce section at the local grocery store. She enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, several novelas, and Suzie Orman, and she always kept up with the Kardashians.

Her contagious laughter and unique humor will be in our hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Eliza Hernandez, husband Donaciano Rodriguez, and brother Ruben Portillo. She is survived by her brothers and sisters Sara Portillo, Salvador Hernandez, Rebecca Hinojos, Rachel Miller, Arturo Rivera, Eva Dominguez, Virginia Belew, Felix Hernandez, and Joel Hernandez, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Rosary service was held Oct. 22, 2018, followed with Mass at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Alpine. Deacon Paul Lister officiated.

Alpine Memorial Funeral Home was entrusted with her services. Online condolence may be made at
