Pedro “Pete” Salas, 81, a lifetime resident of Marathon, Texas, passed away at Big Bend Regional Medical Center on March 12, 2018.

Rosary was recited on March 14, 2018, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marathon. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2018. Graveside service will follow at the Marathon cemetery. Alpine Memorial Funeral Home was entrusted with his services.

Mr. Salas was born in San Vicente, Texas, on August 1, 1936, to Pedro and Francisca Salas. He had worked as a ranch hand for the Paisano Cattle Company for many years. He was a baseball fan, especially of the Alpine Cowboys.

He is survived by his wife Catalina Salas of Marathon; a daughter, Terrie Salas of Marathon; two sisters, Natividad Ortiz of Midland, Texas, and Belen Leos of Utah; three brothers, Simon Salas and his wife Isabell of Alpine, Texas; Pablo Salas and his wife Betty of Midland; and Cirildo Salas and his wife Renee of Hallandale, Florida. He also leaves behind one grandchild, one great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lady Bucks looking forward to improvement

Alpine High School senior Keyshla Vargas has pitched the majority of Alpine's innings this season, and often plays third base when she isn't on the mound.
