Leisa Deann Powell, a resident of Alpine, died in peaceful sleep on Aug. 17, 2019, only 19 days after having observed her 59th birthday.

She was born in Coleman, Texas on July 29, 1960, the beautiful daughter of Pat and Mike Powell. Leisa spent her first three years in Austin, Texas, and later attended public schools in Alpine.

Toward the end of her teenage years, Leisa moved to Semmes, Alabama, where she lived with her mother, Pat Beckham. In Alabama Leisa worked independently in cosmetology, and in New Orleans, Louisiana, she was employed by movie studios to do hair and make-up for actors.

Throughout much of her life, Leisa lived alternately in Semmes or back in Alpine and vicinity.  Leisa loved her “home town” of Alpine, and moved there for the last time soon after the death of her mother.

Any long conversation with Leisa would reveal her deep affection for friends, fondness for animals - especially her dogs - and a passion for growing ornamental plants.

Leisa is survived by her father and stepmother, Shirley Powell of Alpine; her younger brother and family, Michael and Gwen Powell and nephews Jordan and Gage of Semmes; and aunts Audria and Martha.

Arrangements were under the direction of Alpine Memorial Funeral Home.  Memorials may be sent to the Alpine Humane Society.
