R. L. Thomas, 68, passed away peacefully on Oct. 10, 2018, at his home in Oceanside, California. He was born March 16, 1950, in El Paso, Texas, to Cecil and Lupe Thomas.  He was a graduate of Irvin High School in El Paso. 

After high school, R.L. enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served for several years in Vietnam as a military police officer. Upon his return home, he began working for the Southern Pacific Railroad in 1973 as a locomotive engineer, which would be the beginning of a 45-year career, working for several other railroads along the way. 

He is survived by his two sons and daughter Ryan, Michael, and Kathleen; his grandson Tristan, and granddaughter Ashlyn.

Family, friends, and others whose lives R.L. touched are invited to the Evergreen Cemetery at 4301 Alameda Avenue in El Paso on Friday, Nov. 9, 2018, at 2 p.m. to reminisce, grieve, and support each other.

Bucks fall to Crane, head to Bi-District playoffs
