Francisca “Kika” R. Garcia lifelong resident of Marathon, Texas, closed her eyes to her earthly home and opened them to her Heavenly home on April 6, 2019 in Midland, Texas with her beloved family by her side. She was 85.

Born on June 17, 1933 in Marathon to Francisco Garcia and Luisa (Ramirez) Garcia, Francisca lived a life devoted to her Heavenly Father and mankind as a friendly, loving, and selfless creation of God. She worked for the Marathon Inn as a housekeeper, later working for the Gage Hotel in the same position.

Praying of the Most Holy Rosary was held April 11, 2019 at St. Mary Mission in Marathon. Mass of Christian Burial was held on April 12, 2019 at St. Mary Mission, with Father Beto Lopez serving as celebrant. Burial followed at the Marathon Cemetery.

Those serving as pallbearers were grandson Matthew Garcia of Tulare, California, grandson Marcus Garcia of Midland, great nephew A.J. Olvera of Midland, great nephew George Samudio of Boerne, Texas, great nephew David Olvera of Midland, great nephew  Joey Olvera of Monahans, Texas, great grandson RaShaun Lewis of Midland, and grandson Alex Garcia of Alpine, Texas.

Francisca was a very strong and dedicated child of God. She would always have a warm smile, as well as a kind word to greet everyone that she knew and didn’t know. She was beloved by all those in Marathon. She enjoyed sewing and making quilts that she gave away to her family and friends. One rule that she lived by was that no matter who came to her home to visit, they would never leave with an empty stomach, and she cooked for everyone.

Francisca enjoyed traveling with family, and would always have a suitcase on standby to travel. She loved to garden, and would eat vanilla ice cream while watching her favorite television programs.

She was a pillar of strength to her family, and always told her family to remain strong in the face of anything that was handed to them in life. Francisca herself was strong up until her beloved Savior called her home.

Preceding Francisca in death was her father, Francisco Garcia, and her mother, Luisa Garcia.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory are her son Guadalupe Luis Garcia of Marathon, her brother Antonio Garcia and wife Olivia of Kermit, Texas, her brother by heart Raymond Hernandez and his wife Anita of Eunice, New Mexico, her grandchildren Audrey Mendoza and husband Chris of Midland, Matthew Garcia and wife Katie of Tulare, Marcus Garcia of Midland, Isaiah Garcia of Alpine, Adriene Garcia of Alpine, and Alex Garcia of Alpine, along with nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Garcia Family would like to thank all family and friends for their prayers, support, and extra strength with which all of you so lovingly aided the family.

The Garcia family has entrusted Alpine Memorial Funeral Home with arrangements.
