Kay Meriwether Green, 64, passed away Oct. 6, 2018, at Meriwether Ranch in Alpine, Texas, surrounded by her husband and caregiver Rosie Mancha. Kay was the daughter of William Thomas Meriwether and Mary Katheraine Cowsert, both deceased. Kay was born May 5, 1954, in Alpine, and is survived by her husband Don Green and her sister Gay Holt of Dallas, Texas.

Kay grew up on the Meriwether Ranch outside Alpine, starting school in Alpine and then attending St. Mary’s Hall in San Antonio, Texas, where she graduated high school. Kay was president of the student body her senior year. She then attended Trinity University, San Antonio, where she graduated with a BA in History.

Kay married Don Green on September 17, 1988, and the couple moved to Alpine in 1991. Kay was very active in the community, having worked on the Alpine Public Library fund raising committee. Kay’s most recent activity was serving as chair of the Director’s Advisory Council of Museum of the Big Bend in Alpine.

Kay loved life and living on the family ranch. She was a loving, caring wife. Even until the end of life, she stayed in touch with her closest friends and family. Kay never met a stranger. She was the epitome of the West Texas woman, strong, resilient, and full of life.

There will be a private, family-only service. Friends are encouraged to make donations to the American Cancer Society.
