Celebrate river, culture and more at Riofest
REDFORD - Everyone is invited to the 2008 Riofest this weekend (April 5-7) at Faustino "Tino" Pineda's farm 3 miles southeast of Redford on FM 170. Signs will be posted, and details and a map are available at myspace.com/riofestbigbend.
Primitive camping will be available, so trailer/campers are welcome. There are places to stay in Lajitas, Presidio and Terlingua if camping means a hotel room. Some food will be provided, but attendees are encouraged to bring beverages and food. Since the farm is on the river, there will be canoes available, but attendees are encouraged to bring their own. Musicians are invited to bring instruments. Kids and dogs are welcome, too.
For more details, call or e-mail David Shane Duke at 512-644-8680 or davidshaneduke@gmail.com; riofestbigbend@gmail.com will be checked daily.
Sul Ross a partner in grant
Sul Ross State University's School of Business is one of seven partners in a $250,000 Regional Innovation Grant awarded to the Upper Rio Grande Workforce Investment Board to address the impact of manufacturing industry layoffs.
The U.S. Department of Labor, which announced the grant Tuesday, said it will lead to a plan to support sustainable, innovation-based strategies in West Texas. The proposed project also will use resources from public and private sector programs to advance the plan.
