Avalanche seeking photo for masthead
Avalanche staff report
If you're an amateur photographer living in the tri-county area, here's your chance to have your talent recognized.
The Alpine Avalanche is sponsoring a contest, the winner of which will have his/her photo used as the background for the newspaper's masthead. (See example.)
We're also scrounging around in the attic for a suitable prize to go along with your everlasting fame.
"We are looking to liven up our front page a bit," said Editor and Publisher Mike Perry. "And it's a nod to the history of the Avalanche, which featured the mountains when I first read it as a kid.
"We were going to take our own picture, but then thought that our readers could do a better job. We know there are a lot of talented artists in the area, including photographers."
There are some rules, though.
[bullet] Only submissions from amateur photographers living in Brewster, Presidio or Jeff Davis counties will be accepted.
[bullet] The picture should be of mountains located only in Brewster, Presidio or Jeff Davis counties, with preference given to Brewster County.
[bullet] The picture should be submitted in color, preferably in digital format with the largest possible resolution.
[bullet] One submission per participant.
[bullet] E-mail photo to editor@alpineavalanche.com, including name, address and phone number, by noon on Friday, Aug. 3.
"This is your newspaper, after all," said Perry. "But if you're going to submit a photo, be sure it captures our mountains."
The best of the photos will be published in a special Avalanche photo spread. The best of the best will become part of our masthead. All photos will be placed on our website.
